Another outstanding hostel that I and others, including a young doctor, were delighted to stay in. Getting there from the domestic airport was easy and the bus company not only took me to their terminal, but then had drivers that took their passengers to the locations the needed to be. You can go cheaper, by knowing where you're going and now I do, but that involves a bit of walking and with heavy luggage might not be the best way. The international airport is insanely far away, as is so often the case, and, while there is good old Number 8, that will take you, it is a ride longer than an hour. The hostel is modern, the personnel delightful, multi-lingual, and I could not think of a better place to stay. Not the cheapest, but probably the most bang for the dollar. There's also a very nice breakfast included.

NOTE:

There are of tours of the city and environment and usually more activities than there is time. Walking to the city center is not far and interesting. The harbor area is great, there are buffet type restaurants (take out) all over and not far from the hostel (turn right and walk a couple of blocks. The first one will be on your left. There are more as you go toward the business area. Other than that, there is a supermarket exactly across from the hostel that also serves hot meals to go. Lots of possibilities. The wonderful desk personnel know all of the ins and outs. Laundry is out of the door to the right, less than a block. Can't miss it. A Chinese couple run it. Not expensive and they do it fast and good. .

It serves the purpose. A little strange in a way, at least to me, since it is also the home of the people, the family, who run it, but that makes it more like a B&B in a way. I was comfortable enough for the three nights there. The wife speaks good English, but I got by with the husband who speaks about as little English as I do Spanish. Walking into town is easy, just follow gravity down to the bottom of the hill and turn left at the creek. You'll see a bridge there and right on the other side is a busy gas station and past that is the well-stocked supermarket where you will get just about anything you want. There are other stores, bakeries and such around town. Easy to stay fed, and a lot of small and large eateries. An ATM is a few blocks down, look right, there'll be a bank with a small secure room with a couple of ATMs. Tour offices are all over the place. Easy as pie. The hostel also serves a breakfast and will supply sandwiches, I forget, for tours, if needed. The couple is helpful and friendly. I would not mind staying there again. The price was right. I used Hostelworld for my reservation. You can look there for information as well..

IThe bus from the airport dropped me off exactly in front of their door. Friendly enough people who run it. They have plenty of local info and share it. The place is a little odd, where architecture goes, but interesting enough. I was fine there. There was a breakfast, but you may want to supplement. There are places to get food all over. Just head left out the door and there is a mini-mart right there, a more expansive place to buy food and also eat, a few steps beyond. The hostel has a kitchen available and an older couple from Australia were there cooking their own meals daily and were quite comfortable. There is a pool, as you can see. Beyond that, remember why you are here. Go out, have fun, see the falls, move on. I used Hostelworld for my reservation. You can look there for information as well.

NOTE:

As for the all-important ATMs. There's a bank down past the bus terminal, where you also catch the bus (No. 11, I think, ask at the hostel) to the National Park, hang a left and at the next main street there'll be a bank with several ATMs. The best one, uncrowded, I found after entering the National Park entrance area. There's one that has almost no traffic, especially after you're leaving there. Also going left and downhill, you will find a larger supermarket and a fruit and veggie store.

A stern lady with a heart of gold runs the place. She does run a tight ship, but because of that the facilities are in excellent condition. I really enjoyed myself there and she is very, very helpful. Her daughter speaks excellent English as does, someone else, maybe the son-in-law, I forget. A fair breakfast is served, and there is a refrigerator available to put anything you want to store. Mark it, you kow the drill. Considering that I stayed there off-season, not having my own bathroom ensuite was not a problem. The place has a good reputation and packs up when the season is on. So you might want to reserve ahead. I happen to use Hostelworld for my reservation. You can look there for information as well.

NOTE:

I arrived by bus from Punta Arenas and was dropped off within a block. I needed an ATM, since I had just changed country, and that took going the next morning into town to the main drag and there are several banks. The one across from the post office worked best for me. there will always be lines, so be patient. Near the hostel, going left, you will find an excellent bakery that make takeout meals. There is also a minimart in that direction. There are others all around and plenty of fast and slow food places all over town. A hotel with a coffee shop and superb views is right across the street. I had them arrange my HMS Beagle Channel tour, btw. .
